Misunderstandings About Brazil

Today we started learning about Brazil in class. Since I am a native of Brazil I knew most facts. It made me laugh at what other students thought about Brazil. I guess since they aren't from there they thought it but still. So an annoying young man named Max thought the country was just black Spanish people. Others were saying it had to do with little England shacks. I felt ashamed for them to have these and more horrid thoughts. The class got excited with all the soccer and coffee facts.Oh and also the monkeys. They believed people that lived in the forest bred with them. Just plain disgusting! Now that I am living in America and am dearly missing my home county. In my opinion Brazil is the better country.
Our replyHi Sasha, thank you for sharing! Yes, I can imagine how painful it is to hear all the misunderstandings that people have about Brazil. I feel that way too when I hear things that are so obviously untrue. I'm sorry that you encountered such misconceptions.
I also understand why you would miss being in Brazil. I miss being there too, very much. There is a vibrancy to the Earth there, to the people and the culture that I treasure. And it is your home, I imagine you would feel very homesick!
When I was in Brazil, I encountered a lot of misunderstandings about the United States and about Americans, and it was painful for me too. Over time this changed as I developed friendships that transcended national boundaries.
In my experience, each country has unique things to offer, and perhaps one day our world will be one where all countries can be appreciated for their unique gifts, without any one country needing to be better than another.
I hope that you are able to experience some of the blessings that the US has to offer and also to return home to Brazil to be nourished by your homeland.
